Trinamool Congress Panchayat Pradhan, Abdul Aziz Khan, has been arrested by the police in Arambagh, Hooghly, just days before the Panchayat elections in West Bengal.
The arrest was made on the grounds of allegedly trying to impede the arrest of a criminal on Sunday night. Khan, who serves as the head of Gram Panchayat No. 1 in Harin Khola, is claiming that he is being targeted due to political motivations.
According to reports, the Arambagh Police had gone to apprehend a wanted criminal when Abdul Aziz Khan reportedly halted their vehicle, allowing the suspect to flee the scene.
Following this incident, a search was initiated to locate the Trinamool Panchayat Pradhan. Eventually, Khan was arrested in Tarkeshwar late on Monday night. He has been charged with obstructing government work.
